Sustainability: Environmental Impact

We are reducing our environmental impact with innovative solutions. For example, BISSELL aims to optimize sustainable packaging throughout our supply chain. Currently, we maintain a minimum of 50% recycled content in our product cartons and we are evaluating and implementing additional recycled content in our plastics packaging as well.

BISSELL also has internal policies and goals around sustainability, such as being compliant with all applicable global standards and continuing to eliminate substances/materials of high concern from our supply chain.

Innovative product & packaging design

BISSELL designs its products with resource conservation, material efficiencies, product longevity, and end of life in mind. We optimize product designs, product performance, component reliability, and material selections on every product. This is done via scorecards, testing protocols, and design simulations that help ensure we are developing the most efficient designs. BISSELL uses a minimum of 50% recycled content in our cardboard packaging and a minimum of 25% post-consumer regrind resin in our formula bottles. BISSELL also uses rice straw packaging inserts, which are historically common within the rice straw agricultural industry.¹ These inserts reduce smoke pollution and provide a renewable resource for packaging that uses far less water and energy than traditional papermaking processes.

Serviceability and end-of-life recycling

The Support section of our website has troubleshooting articles and videos that can help resolve most consumer issues. If that fails, we route product owners to the best repair options for a machine. To reduce landfill waste, we offer end-of-life recycling. Consumers in the U.S. can ship retired machines to our BISSELL Texas facility, located at 901 East Hi Line Road, Pharr, TX 78577. Trained professionals will examine the device, save the parts that can be used for other products, and recycle the rest. (Consumers outside of the U.S. may want to consult a local recycling center for guidance on recycling machines.)

BISSELL uses universal recycling symbols on formula bottles and caps to aid consumers in recycling these plastics for future use in products.

Composting and recycling programs

BISSELL North American operations include ongoing compost and recycling initiatives to reduce the amount of landfill waste created.

Manufacturing & remanufacturing practices

BISSELL is updating our global facilities with energy efficient lighting and energy efficient HVAC systems. By using alternative energy sources and recycling water use, we reduce energy consumption.

Adoption of renewable energy

Our global headquarters in Walker, Michigan, uses solar energy to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases generated by electricity use. BISSELL also has strategic supplier partners that utilize solar energy to power the various facilities where BISSELL products are manufactured.

Reduction of energy, water usage & landfill waste

We monitor our carbon footprint and are actively working to reduce energy and water use and landfill waste across our supply chain. BISSELL reports our results to the Carbon Disclosure Project.

Having Relationships and Certifications with Strategic Environmental Partners

BISSELL partners with outside experts such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Carbon Disclosure Project, EY, Smart Ways, Maobi, and others. Through these relationships, we are able to benchmark and implement new sustainability programs to reduce our environmental impact.
